Government Goes Mobile
Our government at all levels is going mobile. The AFT, GSA, FBI and a host of other agencies are mobilizing a wide array of functions. At the state and local government level enterprise mobility is, enabling agencies to improve emergency response times and employee productivity, bring services to citizens where they live and work, and eliminate paper-based processes. The DoD has assigned budget in the 2012 fiscal year to make mobility improvements to provide up to the minute and secure access to field personnel. The Government Business Council reports that 50% of the managers surveyed said the government should use mobile apps internally to improve employee productivity.
Government IT departments like yours face many risks with enterprise mobility. Your employees want to use their personally-owned smartphones and tablets since those devices offer access to resources that agencies don’t or can’t provide. Popular apps – cameras, video cameras, social networking, and games – are forbidden in government offices, yet you cannot reasonably demand employees to remove them from their personal devices.
More worrisome concern was voiced by Rep. Darrel Issa, chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform: Once IT grants an employee mobile access, the entire agency is opened up to any mobile app the employee has installed on the device.
Enter the Leader in Secure Mobile Device Management
Citrix XenMobile MDM lets you enable enterprise mobility for your agency without sacrificing compliance or security. Citrix XenMobile MDM offers end-to-end protection for the mobile enterprise, across mobile devices, apps, network, and data. Citrix XenMobile MDM goes beyond the basic remote lock and wipe capabilities of most mobile device management solutions to:
- Disable non-compliant mobile apps in the workplace. Allow field workers to access only authorized apps during business hours. Dynamic Defense lets IT put in place context-aware mobile security that blocks access to resources or applications based on the context (time, location, or combination of the two) of the user to help ensure compliance.
- Lock-down sensitive mobile apps. Segregate sensitive or classified apps from all other apps running on the employee devices. Mobile App Tunnels provide dedicated, fully-encrypted, fully-auditable, VPN-like connections to secure your mobile apps and data.
- Protect sensitive data. Prevent employees from using their mobile device to forward confidential data to their personal email, download it to their home computer, or synch it to Dropbox.
