Zenprise Launches Management Offering for iPads and iPhones
Fremont, CA – Aug. 17, 2010— Zenprise, Inc., a leading provider of enterprise mobile management and mobile device management software, today announced the latest version of its MobileManager software aimed at helping IT administrators more effectively manage, monitor and secure employee-liable devices in the workplace including popular Apple iPhones and iPads. New capabilities address three common business concerns associated with employee-liable devices.
A new “Selective Wipe” feature enables administrators to keep personal device data distinct from corporate data when an employee leaves a company. For employee-liable devices not covered by internal support staff, “Remote Lifeline” connects, diagnoses and remediates unsecured personal devices. Zenprise also now gives administrators the flexibility to create distinct security "Profiles" for employee-liable and corporate-liable devices. Profiles prevent the loss of trade secrets or confidential information on lost or stolen unsecured personal devices.
“Many companies today want the productivity benefits of employee choice for the latest mobile devices such as the iPhone and iPad, while they remain concerned about the potential strain on internal resources and the risk these devices may impose upon the business,” said Andrew Borg, senior research analyst, wireless and mobility, Aberdeen Group. “The decision to permit employee use of personal devices for work presents a unique set of security, compliance and management challenges to IT administrators. It's critical to strike the right balance between employee choice and corporate policy.”
Setting the standard for managing employee-liable devices
Zenprise MobileManagerprovides IT the means to monitor, manage and secure employee-liable and corporate-liable mobile devices. The ability to manage both types of devices from a single dashboard is a direct result of the deep visibility Zenprise uniquely provides across the entire mobile ecosystem at the device, carrier, infrastructure and Exchange levels.
More employees want to connect their personal iPhone and iPad devices to enterprise network resources such as mail, calendar and contacts. This introduces fundamental challenges for managing and securing employee-liable devices.
Zenprise MobileManager is today launching three key features to allow IT to better meet these challenges:
- “Selective Wipe”enterprise data protection: Allows IT to remove enterprise-specific data and applications while keeping personal data (music, photos, applications, videos, etc.) and settings on an employee-liable iPhone or iPad in tact. For industries such as the legal and medical professions where sensitive and confidential information is stored on personal devices, this capability ensures secure and compliance regulations.
- “Remote Lifeline”: There are critical instances where VIPs or traveling employees require emergency technical assistance, even if the organization does not formally support their employee-liable devices. Zenprise gives IT administrators the means to auto-configure a users’s VPN, proxy server and WiFi settings remotely to expedite troubleshooting. Additionally, “Remote Lifeline” automatically detects and helps IT remediate problems on unsupported employee-liable devices such as a user’s inability to access enterprise mail, calendar or contacts.
- “Profiles”: IT can create distinct profiles for employee-liable and corporate-liable devices. For example, IT may simply require the use of passwords on employee-liable devices. The corporate-liable profile may also require passwords, in addition to restricting Web browsing capabilities, limited or blocking installation of certain application, or preventing access to features such as the YouTube applications or camera capabilities. Profiles are managed via Active Directory to simplify management.
“The question of how to most efficiently support employee-liable devices while adhering to corporate security and compliance is top of mind for IT,” said Ahmed Datoo, VP of Marketing for Zenprise. “Our latest offering allows administrators to address the business challenges that consumer devices present with a comprehensive and robust set of features.”
Zenprise’s extensive list of more than 300 global customers spans a cross-section of countries and vertical industries including: Comcast, Boeing Corporation, Shook Hardy & Bacon LLP, Varian Medical Systems and Vodafone.
